Mutiara (meaning the Pearl in Malay) first opened its doors in 1996, making it one of the oldest establishments in Auckland’s trendy suburb - Ponsonby Road. Here at Mutiara, we aspire to be the best restaurant in serving fine Malaysian cuisines to tantalize the most discerning taste buds of our patrons.

 

Our outstanding Malaysian specialities uses only the best and freshest ingredients and is prepared using traditional Malaysian recipes to ensure its authenticity. We are a pork-free, Halal restaurant and our dishes are guaranteed to be free of any MSG, tenderiser or artificial food colouring.

Malaysian cuisine brings together culinary influences from the native Malay, as well as Chinese and Indian cooking, to offer an exquisite melting-pot of flavours that will capture the real Malaysian experience.  It is a culinary experience that is bound to be unforgettable!

Our restaurant can accommodate up to 35 seated dining.  We are a licensed restaurant and BYO wine only.

The Chef - Roy Lim

“Serves only the best of Malaysian food.” That has always been the philosophy of Chef Roy Lim on his Mutiara Restaurant founded in 1996. Born and raised in “Food Heaven” Penang, Roy is passionate about Malaysian Cuisine and commits his entire career to sharing it with the locale in its most authentic taste.

 

With more than 30 years of experience, Roy knows his way around every herb and spice and carefully combines their unique flavours, together with only the freshest of ingredients, to bring out the best in each and every one of his dishes.

Come and enjoy classic yet captivating Malaysian cuisine Roy has to offer, such as Rendang and Ikan Bakar, or ask Roy what’s new on the menu. He enjoys creating new dishes and appreciates customer’s feedback on his new creation. With the expertise of a five-star hotel chef and the tutelage under one of Malaysia’s most famous chefs, Roy is sure to delight your taste buds.
